How do you create flips in african american hair?

My hair is a little longer than ear length. And I will use gel or hairspray.

Give each section a quick spray of hairspary right before you put the curling iron on it. This has worked well for me.

The only way I know is just to put some of that heat activated stuff that holds curls, turn your curling iron the opposite way-from the one you usually do-and curl it over instead of under.

Use any curling iron and put it in your hair upside down.Curl it like that. That's what I used to do before I cut it all off. But don't use gel just use the spray; it'll look better

Try using a skinny straightener with curved edges to essentially flip the hair out after its dry and straight. Work in small sections, and glide the iron down over the hair, flip the iron out about 3 inches from the tips and away from the face. You can also try this with a 1" curling iron. Make sure its on a low setting since you're working with the ends. Spray with a light hold hair spray so it moves, and don't touch it until its cool and dry. :D Good luck!
