Don't put alot of gel in your hair. Use the same types of shampoo and conditioner. Try to use products made by the same company.

If you use a straight iron, stop. If you color, stop. You will do your hair the best justice in the world if you dont mess with it unless brushing through it and using pink moisturizer. Lusters moisturizer. I know I am white but my neice is mixed and I have had to take care of her since she was 5 and she has the same hair type. She is now 20 has naturally curly beautiful hair. Why????? She damaged her hair quite a bit growing up because her mother always put chemicals in it. Ultimately burning and frying the hair causing it to become brittle and quite frankly, nasty. She has learned not to put stuff in it over the years and now loves her hair.

I hate to say this but you will not find the answer to your question here. Everyone that answers your question is going to tell you something different. African American hair grows differently from person to person. What you have to do is find what is best for your hair. Personally, I think you should probably start a routine that is good for you. A lot of black beauticians will tell you it's not healthy to wash your hair more than once a week, but I wash mine twice a week. Deep conditioning will work wonders for your hair!! Find one that you like and apply it to your hair after you shampoo and then let it set under a shower cap and sit under the hair dryer (so it will get hot and soak in) for 15 minutes. I don't know if your hair is relaxed or not but I also find that styling your hair in a simple wrap or roller wrap does a wonderful job of helping hair to grow because its a style that does not manipulate thhe hair into any unnatural position. Also, I don't use any type of moisturizer because my hair is fine but it depends if YOU need it. Some hair types are quite dry so you might need it. Wrap it up with a scarf at night to prevent breakage and you should be straight. I hope I could help you.
