How to cut a African American womans hair?

I need to know how you cut African American woman's hair into a short hair style. Is there any info, on the internet.

It's a very detailed, meticulous process and I don't recommend practicing on an actual person. Especially shorter cuts. By black women's hair being coarser than other nationalities, it's much different than cutting white women's hair, latinas, etc. More than likely, you will be using a chemical to straighten the hair because a short cut won't really look good unless the hair is "relaxed". Otherwise, it'll be a mini afro. The internet isn't going to show you how to do it. That's what cosmetology school is for.

I don't know what to tell you but if someone asked you to do it, you'd be better off referring them to a hairstylist who specializes in black hair.

Just use a clipper b/c it will give you a uniform cut all around. Now it won't be a fancy assymetrical du, but it will be a classic Sherry Belafonte cut.

Just start with the longest setting and move to shorter if you wish. It takes longer that way, but you won't end up with a buzz cut.

If it's relaxed, it's just like cutting caucasian hair except it won't fall limp in your hands. Just try your best not to lose your guide and be very careful with the clippers and trimmers. If the hair is course, it's a bit more difficult to keep your guide because you're going to have to stretch the hair to make sure it's even. There are videos out there but you will have to pay for them. Good Luck!

Maybe you should tell your client that you don't know how to cut her hair. And advise her to find someone who does. That's better than messing up someones hair because you don't know what you're doing.
