How come hair schools don't really go over african american hair?

When I was in beauty school, they hardly taught anything about black hair. Everything was European. Alothugh, European hait techniques could work for asians, whites and hispanics and middle eaterners, it doesn't work for blacks. Why is this? hello, I'm a beautician, I NEED TO KNOW HOW TO DO ALL HAIR TYPES. it's a myth than beauty school teaches people to work with ALL kind of hair!

Not many people like African Americans or their style. But you might find the answer by going to www.search.yahoo.com or www.google.com. Once you get there, for information you have to type in "African American Hair". You will find a list of answers. For pictures, click images and type in "African American Hair."

It seems unfair, but I've personally never seen a Black woman in a salon that doesn't specialize in doing Black hair. But if I were Black, I think I'd know only Blacks could really understand how to do their hair. If I went to your school, I'd ask them to teach me how to do Black hair, just in case a Black person HAD to come into my (mostly White) salon.

i wonder if it depends on the beauty school...perhaps a school in a predominantly black area would spend more time on ethnic hair.......but truly you don't learn much of anything in beauty school anyways, most of your education comes from experience and continuing education after beauty school....i'd suggest that if you really want to know how to do ethnic hair that you go to some-one where you live who does a-lot of ethnic hair and ask them to teach you or if you can observe...often another hairdresser will let you shadow them for a small fee

I heard about this - these schools may feel that Af.amer hair is too difficult and not pretty ,but we get our hair done alot !i dont try to make my hair straight like everyone else - i love my natural textured curls. so there is a shortage of stylist who can work with natural hair and i dont trust any stylist who wants to alter what i was born with. another way to make other races feel superior i guess ,sad isnt it ?
