What helps African American hair gow?

don't believe that u need a weave to have long hair, black hair will grow! a clarfying shampoo, a deep conditioner, a good hot oil treatment, dont use grease it clogs the scalp...and a healthly diet, vitamin b (promotes hair growth) and go from there. I'd heard alot about Mane 'n' Tail but you may want to research their product!

be blessed

I think anything that will make your hair stronger will make it grow. I use Garnier Frutis Long and Strong. I think it will work =)

I have tried many products for years trying to make my relaxed hair grow and nothing worked for me. (of course coloring my hair like crazy didn't help) I finally started locking my hair and now it grows like crazy. All I can recommend (if you have relaxed hair) is to not use heat products too much or heavy hair grease. Consider wearing braids or have cornrows periodically to give your hair a break from daily styling. Or get some dreads!

Hair products that have worked for me and my family are Doo Gro products.

I use Olive Oil, and Carrot oil for sheen and healthy hair, they also promote hair growth. Queen Helen's Cholesterol is a good conditioner. After perming my hair I use Vitapointe..very good conditioning oil that gives great shine (don't use too much) It doesn't weigh the hair down, and your hair will still have body. If you want to grow your hair, African Pride has a Herbal Oil that is good, If you're wearing braids there's also a grease for your scalp (not too much). Motions has a good line of products, and I also like Pantene (makes the hair feel very healthy and has a great smell) My children and I all have long hair.

I don't know if your hair is colored, but the healthiest hair dye is black, you could dye your hair black. The dye is very conditioning and you will see a big difference. Make sure to clip all your split ends, this is how your hair continues to grow.

well doucing your hair in chemicals is actually slowing the process. a good diet and regular care and trims will have your hair growing in no time.

African American hair does grow. The reason why we often don't see the results is because of the multiple damaging hairstyles we endure to look so fabulous as we often do.

1. Minimize the chemical and heating procedures you do on your hair (to reduce breakage)

2. Moisture hair often with quality products

(I like the Nexxus professional line; you can find cheaper versions at Sally's Beauty: Nexxus Therappe Moisturizing Shampoo ($6), Humemectress Moisturizing Conditioner ($6), Restorive Protein Creme Reconstructor ($18 no generic alternative available). Use heat caps with conditioners. I also use a Nigerian product called Virgin Hair Fertilizer on my scalp. It's an anti-dandruff hair conditioning cream. It's for definite rapid hair growth. It contains mostly of raw peppermint oil (key ingredient in hair growth).

3. Take vitamins that have large amount of biotin in them (like prenatal vitamins or any hair, skin, and skins brand.)

4. Massage scalp daily (to increase circulation to head)

Remember the hair grows w/ proper nutrition and dieting but it's up to the individual to care for the hair so that the breakage is minimal.

I have a developed a 10 step program called 10,000HEADS , which has taken me 6 years to refine. The steps are not a magic pill..

but have tested the program thoroughly over the years and have an 86% success rate...there is no magic pill...if there was it would be on the front page!

The first five steps are:

1)nutrition- you must have minimum of 50 grams of protein per day, you must not skip breakfast

2) shower filter: if you cannot drink your water out of the faucet then you should not be rinsing your hair without a SHOWER FILTER

3) water - you must drink a minimum of 1 liter of water every day of your life

4) exercise - a minimum of 3-4 days per week you must do 45 minutes of cardio..

5) DEEP Conditioner : 1 day every week, do an 'overnight' deep condtion by shampooing - rinse - apply condtioner. lay towel on pillow - - sleep///and in the morning rinse...style and go...

for the rest of steps you can see my blog:

I recommed some of the Carol's Daughter products. They have a whole line of products and I'm sure there is something there for growth and strength.

There's many factors concerning hair growth. You didn't give much information. Your diet and heredity plays a big factor as well. Like all of us the length of your hair is determined before birth by your genes. It may be that your hair has reached it's full length and therefore won't continue growing beyond it's determined growth period. Once the hair sheds the process starts over again. If your hair is falling out excessively, permed, you're ill, medications, stressed, worried, or improper diet, you need professional help. I would recommend going to a dermatologist and/or professional hair stylist in these situations. If it is shedding normally, and none of the factors above plague you, then you may need to just take extra care in combing, styling and moisturizing. Try GNC hair, skin and nail vitamins, they have worked wonders for my hair. Eat plenty fruits and veggies and drink plenty of water. Most people think our hair isn't fragile but it's extremely delicate. Use a wide tooth comb, moisturize (like Pink Oil) and comb from the ends towards scalp. The other way knots tangles and causes it to break. Use medium heat when pressing, hot curling, or blow drying and don't use them more than once a week. If you roll hair don't roll tight, sponge rollers should be covered with end papers. Pin curling is the best method for our hair. Pin curling is twisting hair and wrapping around in circles until you reach the end. Tuck in the ends and clamp with hair pin to hold. Tie up with silk scarf for bed. Use moisturizers to wash, condition and maintain hair. Best to let air dry but if you must blow dry use a good conditioner made for blowing drying. Use light oils and massage scalp with fingertips regularly. Brushing can also damage hair. Use a soft natural bristle brush. Some beauty supplies like Sally's sell a scalp rake that uses electricity to increase blood flow to scalp. If you decide to purchase be careful not to use on high, it may cause burns. Start at a low frequency and increase slowly to your comfort. Hot oil treatments are also good. Some you just place in hot water for a minute or so and apply to scalp before washing. There's also a heat cap, that can be used to help deep condition. Should deep condition once a month. Rather than go through the tests and trials of products and regimes, why not just find a good professional and let them sweat it.

To grow your hair you need to do two things:

-Use products that moisturize your hair.

-Use hair care techniques that encourage hair growth.

If you do both of these things, your hair will grow.
