How to care for African American Hair?

My husband %26amp; I are getting foster children. Some of those children could be black children. I've heard that black hair care is different than white hair care. We typically wash our hair daily with shampoo %26amp; conditioner. How often should I wash and what products should I use for the black children? I don't know anything about relaxers or perms or if those are necessary. I want to keep most things the same as in their previous homes, but if they're small children they won't be able to communicate those needs or special products to me. We're excited about expanding our family but we want to educate ourselves so we can plan for easy transitions for the children and us first. Good luck. 2D

First of all, I think it is wonderful that u and your husband decided to do such a noble and kind thing. Especially adopting a different race. That is so unselfish. Congratulations.

Yes, black people's hair is very different from white hair. It does need special care, but is also very beautiful when cared of. U will need some good hydrating shampoos and lots of excellent conditioners. Since black people's hair is really dry and usually curly, and curls get very frizzy, take good care of your child's hair. It would be nice if u taught your child to love his/her hair, because straightening would damage it too much. Try to avoid everything that's not natural for hair, like relaxing and perms or straightening.

I hope I helped u and your husband, and congratulations again.

Shave their heads. It's cute. Unless its a girl. Dont use relaxers or anything. Just make sure you keep them clean and most importantly LOVED.

They'll need that more than anything.

Well if your getting black kids you should go for an relaxer or perm so it would be easy for you. all you would have to do is wash it every two weeks and flat iron it. so it wouldn't be that hard on you. You would use shampoo and conditioner.
