How do you make african american hair bouncey and soft and to smell great!?

I've read some of the answers and for the most part they are on point. There is an issue with using too many products and over doing it. I use mainly Dr. Miracle products and this helped tame my very course hair. I can tell you my routine to give you an idea of how I do things.

Once a week I wash my hair with Dr. Miracle's shampoo and conditioners. I wash twice and the third time I wash and let it sit in my hair for about 3-5 minutes. (this allows it to condition). After I rinse (because I had damaged hair-I no longer have to do this step) I used Hair Damage Control. You put this in your hair let it sit for another 5 minutes and then rinse.

When I dry my hair I use Dr. Miracle's foam and wrap my hair. Be sure to use wrapping paper it allows it to lie down perfectly. I purchased a dryer (like $35) and sit under the dryer for 20-30minutes. When it's done drying, I don't put any product in it. Instead I flat iron with a ceramic flat iron. Once I've straightened my hair I use Dr. Miracle's Grow Oil (it's like a hot oil treatment) I dab it all over my head an focus on areas I want to strengthen or grown. I then wrap my hair again this time with a brush (the same direction I wrapped before) and I use saran wrap to hold it in place. The saran wrap is tight on my head and all of my hair is covered. I then sit under the dryer again for 10-15 minutes. (this is a silk wrap it makes your hair seem a lot more bouncy and silky.)

I then unwrap it and it's all done. It takes about 2 hours I do it every Saturday morning. For a nice smell I spray my hair will Carol's Daughter Black Vanilla leave in conditioner. It gives my hair I nice vanilla smell while conditioning. I only use this about 2/3 times a week and only a couple of sprays I dont pour it on my head. I wrap my hair every night and again 2/3 times a week use a little Dr Miracle's Grow Oil before bed. You can feel it working...I'm not trying to sound like a commercial but you can.

One of my friends put me on to this product and after years of damaged hair in poor condition I finally found something that works. This is the only thing that works for me. I hope his helps. Good Luck and email me if you need any more suggestions!

The problem with not only African Americans but with people in general is that they use to much product, and sometimes the wrong product.

To make it simple choose a shampoo/conditioner that is specific to your needs/wants. Example they have volumizing, straitening, shine enhansers, etc. Choose the one you want.

Also, you want to use products that are light so they won't weigh your hair down.

These products will help you achieve bouncy, and shiny hair for roller sets, wraps, and any heat styling.

1. Infusium leave-in conditioner that is heat protectant, or something similar. Make sure it is a liquid leave-in and not a cream/lotion.

2. Use a foam wrap lotion to wrap hair or set hair. I love Motions.

3. To moisturize hair and add shine use a light oil like Mink Oil Sheens, and I love Kemi Oyl.

If your hair is natural (without a relaxer) then it will never be bouncy like all other hair types. However, you can make it soft, smell good, and it will be at its healthies point.

If you have a relaxer it will be difficult because the relaxer damages the hair and it becomes limp. It may bounce after you first blow dry it, but once you encounter any kind of humidity or put more products on it, it will all go away. If you really want it to do what other hair types do (bounce) then I suggest you buy a weave.

Well, some people have that kind of stiff hair that seems like you cant do anything with it.

Grow your hair longer, that sometimes helps alot, get a shampoo and conditioner for your hair type.

Try leave in conditioners, or deep conditioners.

Wash your hair everyday, and thats pretty much what you can do with it, im sorry!

well, im guessing that your hair is relaxed like mine. what makes my hair nice and bouncy is to put it on rollers with a foaming setting creme by Motions. keep it in overnigth and let it air dry and it comes out so nice and bouncy and curly!

Unicure has a really nice setting lotion too... you can buy soft roller so you dont have a hard time sleeping with them in.

Wella High Hair Bouncy Dip makews your hair, well bouncy!

after washing your hair, while still damp, apply a leav in conditioner and put hour hair on big rollers (detangle your hair first) and let it sit for 20 minutes. gently rinse hair in luke warm water then style as usual.

to make your hair smell nice use Garnier fructis or herbal essences products.

Charles Worthington 'Head in the Clouds' Hair Perfume. This product is perfect for days when you just dont have the time to wash your hair. Only a few sprays of this and your hair not only smells gorgeous again but all other smells are eliminated. Its really great!
