How do you maintain african american hair?

Yes but if your hair is natural (I recommend keeping it natural and wearing it straight only when wanted or needed) you will need more heat on it than normal. First thing is you need to start with hair in good condition. I would recommend this:

1. Wash 2 times a week. Each time please deep condition your hair, meaning you will need a heating cap as well as a plastic cap and after you wash your hair, let the conditioner (Try Mane N Tail's Original Conditioner) sit on your hair (with plastic cap on and heating cap over that) for 15 to 20 minutes.

2. Rinse out completely BUT you can also use the Mane N Tail Conditioner as a leave in conditioner which I highly recommend.

3. Once that is done you will need to apply a heat protectant and blow dry it with a dryer complete with a comb attachement on the end.

4. Section your hair in 4 sections. Take 1 section out at a time and very lightly apply pressing oil from root to tip. Use a straightening comb (AKA hotcomb) to straighten the hair. You will also need a rat tail comb because you will need to make parts as you go along each section you straighten. Repeat until complete.

5. You will also need a flat iron. Resection the hair and use the flat iron to get each section bone straight using the same method in step #4. You can even flip the ends for a bit of curl as you go along.

6. Spray a light sheen spray and you will be able to fling your hair around with glee. (smiles)

7. From here you can wear it as, wrap it up in a scarf until the next day or whatever you choose to do.

**DO NOT USE HAIR GREASE which suffocates the hair follicles and PLEASE DO NOT BRUSH YOUR HAIR which rips the hair***

relax it like...every 2 months, depending how fast your hair grows. and grease it every other day. dont do alot of grease or your hair wont grow. are you talking about a silk scarf wrapped around your hair? that will just make it slightly bent to look like a bob.

Hey there! I relate to you fully. But I don't have a perm, or relaxed my hair, or used a silk wrap. I wash my hair with regular shampoo and conditioner (i recommend Pantene for colored. The gold bottles.). After you do that, use cholesterol hot oil treatment. It treats damaged hair and softens your hair. It also loosens your curls. After you do that use a heat protector cream or spray(i recommend loreal Paris), and blow dry. If you want you can sit under a dryer. When you finished all that, just plug in that hair straightener and straight away. Since your using a heat protector, you won't have to worry about frying or burning your hair. Also for salons, Dominican salons do hair best! =] Hope I helped%26lt;3
